Day 11 - Stillwater, OK to Omaha, NE

View of the lake out the front door.

The drive yesterday to Oklahoma was really easy. I drove a good part of it because it was so windy in Oklahoma, the RV was rolling too much making me carsick. I felt better behind the wheel than as a passenger, clearly don’t have my sea legs like Kyle does. I do have to say, it was very nice leaving the desert landscape behind us and entering into the beauty of large fall trees, lakes, hills and mountains. We are staying at a campground at Lake Carl Blackwell called Scissortail Lane. The site itself needs some work, but the views were amazing! The campground we were at was pretty small, there were only a handful of pull through sites, we were in the 1st one in the front row. So we had an unobstructed view of the lake! There were only 2 other RVs staying in this campground, the surrounding ones seemed to be more full time RVers and were fuller. Lake Carl Blackwell park is such a beautiful place. They have a lot of campgrounds here. Some are RV friendly, some are full time only, some are tent only. A good mix of everything. Lots of fishing spots too.

We made it into the campground with daylight left so we pulled out our chairs and took advantage of the views! It was so peaceful, a nice little retreat in the middle of our journey. I feel like this is the first actual campground we have stayed at. All the rest have all been just parking lots really or a place to stop for a night that we wouldn’t want to go back to. This campground I would love to set up camp here and stay a while. We took in the scenery, watched some deer in the woods, ducks and geese landing on the water, while the sun went down. It was very quite and the weather was perfect! Since Kate sent us with leftovers, we had steak, potatoes and green beans tonight for dinner! Then we watched our favorite show, Ted Lasso, highly recommend it!

It was in the 50s when we woke up this morning on the lake. The bedroom stayed pretty warm and we didn’t use a heater at all. But the living area was chilly so I pulled out the space heater. We are low on propane so I don’t want to turn the furnace on because we still need the propane that’s left for the stove and water heater this morning. I made some eggs and heated up the rest of the steak from Ted and Kate. The space heater and stove helped heat the living area up quickly. Soon it was 68 in the RV and 55 outside. Around 9am there was a guy on a riding lawn mower going around to each campsite. I watched him mow ours out the window while I did dishes in our fancy new sink! Thanks dad! I can fit the entire pan that I cooked the eggs on in that sink. Just what I wanted. The sink also works well as a catch all for driving. We can put things in there that normally would roll around on the counter. We love it!

View out our kitchen window.

Aloe plant from Uncle Tim and Aunt Teresa, basil from the Reynolds, salvia from my parents with rosemary mint from New Mexico surround our lovely sink!

Don't mind washing dishes to this.

Our campsite only had water and electricity but the park had a large dump station so after we were all packed up we headed up there. It’s so much quicker packing up a campsite and getting on the road in the RV than it is in the pop up! We were on the road by 11am, later than we wanted but we took our time getting ready this morning and had a nice breakfast. We have a long drive to Omaha today. 6+ hours so probably more like 7-8 hours. We also need to find a spot to fill up the propane tank at since we will be at Mike and Emma’s for a few days and the fridge will need to run on propane while it sits on the street. That was harder than we thought. We figured most truck stops would have propane, we called around to a few on our route and none of them did or if they did they didn’t fill RVs. We finally found a small spot off the highway that looked like someones house. He only put 6lbs in our tank, so I guess our sensor is wrong which is what the guy said they usually are pretty inaccurate. I guess better to be safe than sorry!

Driving through the boring hills of Kansas, still prettier than the desert!

At a rest stop in Kansas

We forgot to put the TV antenna down (again) but this time it got stuck so Kyle climbed up on the roof to help coax it down.
Watching the sunset out of my window from the couch

Watching the sun leave us as we drive into the night towards Omaha
