NRC Solomons Island - C22

Our first night camping in our renovated trailer! It was a long day of packing and getting everything ready to go, but luckily the campground we were staying at was just over the bridge. Kyle and I set up camp and made steak and potatoes for dinner on the Camp Chef. Sleeping in the PUP with the AC on this hot night felt perfect! Kevin and Sara joined us today. We hung out at the campsite and played kan-jam in the grass next to our campsite. The campsite itself is nice and big, lots of grass all around. We had 2 huge trees that helped with shading the trailer. The pad trailer pad was level asphalt so we didn't need to do much for leveling the trailer. There wasn't a fire ring, just a metal BBQ that looked pretty rusty. Good thing we had our own fire pit. Jeff and Darlene came to visit for a bit and later after they left we took Toby swimming down at the river. We had to cut swimming short though because there were way too many jellyfish floating around. The nights

Galley Reveal

Our kitchen in the PUP has gone through quite the makeover! The first thing we did was rip the old stove out . That left this nice hole in our countertop where the stove used to be. We then took out all the drawers and cabinets, leaving more holes to fill…  Time to start rebuilding this galley. We primed and painted everything. Including the refrigerator door. That got a nice new coat of primer and then black chalkboard paint! The galley handle and chain cover also got a coat of black paint to match. New doors and drawers were built , primed, painted and installed as well.  Next it was time to tackle the countertop . Building the countertop from scratch was the best idea we had. It turned out so nice with its matching sink cover! Here we have all our hard work put together! The last bit we did to the galley was replace the basket strainer with a bar sink basket strainer  from Lowes. The old one was made of plastic

New Curtains

We finally have new curtains in the PUP and I couldn’t be happier! They definitely “open up the space” 😉 These were the curtains and valance that came with the trailer. They were an ugly green, with holes and lots of stains and smelled awful. To start this project, I labeled each curtain and valance panel with a posit and took photos of them hanging for future reference. This was probably the best thing I did because we took the curtains out of the trailer back in April and I finally put the new ones up today in June! After everything was labeled, measured and documented it was time to pick fabric. This my friends, was harder than I thought it would be. I searched many fabric stores and websites. But it was so hard to actually decided on a fabric it was starting to stress me out. While we worked on other things, with the curtains in the back of my mind, I found these curtains at Target and they were perfect! I waited for them to go on sale and spent a littl

Furnace Vent Bug Screen

This is another simple upgrade. Our furnace vent is the home to wasps and other bugs. To help keep these pests out we bought a Bug Vent Screen  to cover the furnace. There weren't any instructions and it took a little brainwork to figure out how to actually make this work. The screen comes with an "installation tool" which is basically a metal wand with a notch at the end.  The first thing you want to do is hook the springs to the actual screen itself. Next you will push the wand through the screen and try to "catch" the other end of the spring and guide it with the want into a hole of the vent. It is very hard to explain but pretty easy to do. Once the springs are hooked in the tension will hold the screen in place. Simple as that!

LED Lights Upgrade

This was a simple upgrade. I bought these bulbs from Amazon  to replace our old lightbulbs. We only needed 5 bulbs total but they come in a pack of 10 so I'll have some extras for a later date.  We love the warm tone these bulbs give off and they are super bright.
