Waterproofing the Canvas

We used this 303 Fabric Guard that has been highly recommended all over the place for Sunbrella fabrics to waterproof our canvas this weekend. Also needed are some pieces of cardboard to prevent overspray getting on materials it shouldn't touch like the vinyl and screens. We went around the trailer, Kyle spraying while I held various pieces of cardboard to make sure the Fabric Guard was sprayed only on the fabric. You can see here the right panel has been sprayed, you want to thoroughly saturate the fabric so it looks like this. On a day like today where it was in the 90s, this stuff dried pretty fast. The cure time is what is important to pay attention to. Most directions say 6-12 hours cure time depending on the temperature outside. This means don't get it wet, let rain or dew on the canvas until the cure time. That is why we have waited so long to waterproof our canvas, you really need a nice hot dry day to do this. Here you can s...

New Floors

What a transformation right?! Wait till you see all the work that went into these floors. Clean slate, ready for flooring. This is the section that will get tricky. To prepare this area, I used some Liquid Nails  to glue down the vinyl that was lifting up. I screwed some wood pieces over top of the edge while the glue dried to for better adhesion. I also used the staple gun in the harder to reach areas. While this dried, we laid out our floor to figure out a pattern we liked. The flooring we are using is the peel and stick Style Selections 6-in x 36-in  from Lowes in Antique Woodland Oak Dark Brown We started with a clean slate. First Kyle used the shop vac to make sure all the large dust and debris was cleared out of the trailer. Then I used the wet mop Swiffer pads to clean all the floors once over. Next I would work in sections. I sprayed the Goo Gone Project Prep spray on fi...

Dinette Slide Footer Fix

This is the dinette with the cushions, doors and table removed. The fix we are working on today is for this bottom piece that I'm going to call the Dinette Slide Footer because I don't actually know what it is called. Since everything is getting painted in this PUP the obvious first task will be to dissemble the footer and paint it.  I took the footer off so we could start painting and found this horrific mess! Obviously the previous owners had a dog and NEVER cleaned under here… So now my first task was to clean this mess out before I started painting. I took the weather strip off the bottom of the footer because it was ripped in many places. We will be buying a new black one from Coleman Popup Parts https://colemanpopupparts.com/products/bed-seal to replace this one. Kyle spray painted the top metal piece black then I primed the bottom part white.  After a good cleaning the underside looks much better. We put the footer back up tempora...

Canvas Clean Up

After a ton of research online we attempted to clean the canvas today with the Mildew Stain Remover by Camco . You are supposed to spray it on, let it sit for a bit, then scrub away. After you are done scrubbing you take some clean water to wipe away the leftover soap and then dry it thoroughly. Quite a lot of work! Kyle scrubbing away. Not an easy task scrubbing over your head like this. This was what happened with our first attempt in cleaning the canvas. The Camco stuff seemed to help get out the stains pretty well, but left what we think are mildew spots behind. So we needed to figure out a better solution. After checking with Sunbrella's website about how to clean the canvas properly we had a second go at it. Sunbrella suggests a solution of 1 cup bleach, 1/4 cup dish soap and 1 gallon of water then clean thoroughly with fresh water and dry well. From Sunbrella's Website: Mold and mildew stains Sunbrella fabrics do not promote mildew ...
