NRC Solomons Island - C22

Our first night camping in our renovated trailer! It was a long day of packing and getting everything ready to go, but luckily the campground we were staying at was just over the bridge. Kyle and I set up camp and made steak and potatoes for dinner on the Camp Chef. Sleeping in the PUP with the AC on this hot night felt perfect!

Kevin and Sara joined us today. We hung out at the campsite and played kan-jam in the grass next to our campsite. The campsite itself is nice and big, lots of grass all around. We had 2 huge trees that helped with shading the trailer. The pad trailer pad was level asphalt so we didn't need to do much for leveling the trailer. There wasn't a fire ring, just a metal BBQ that looked pretty rusty. Good thing we had our own fire pit. Jeff and Darlene came to visit for a bit and later after they left we took Toby swimming down at the river. We had to cut swimming short though because there were way too many jellyfish floating around. The nights didn't cool down out here so we played lots of board games in the trailer at night with the AC on. We tried sitting around the fire and cooking s'mores one night but it was too hot and then it rained! Kyle and I did get to pop our jiffy pop on the last night, but we didn't hang by the fire long. Too hot! Kyle and Kevin went to the driving range one day

Kevin and Sara left on Sunday after breakfast. Jeff and Darlene came by again today around lunch and hung out for a bit. It was another super hot day today. We got lots of use out of our new Camp Chef on this trip! We even used it for pancakes one morning! This was a very hot and humid trip, but I'm glad we were able to test out our PUP and see how it will be like to live in it for 3 weeks this summer!

Trip Details

Campground: NRC Solomons Island. 13855 Solomons Island Rd S, Solomons, MD 20688
Site: C22 [Back in, Full Hook-Ups]
Dates: June 30th - July 4th, 2017
Overview: The campground itself is lovely and very well kept. The bathrooms are pretty spaced out and could use some cleaning. The bathhouse at the front had the better showers it seemed. Lots of stalls and they were free with plenty of hot water. A water pressure regulator is recommended if using their hook-ups, they had multiple amperage options to choose from as well if need. There also is a dump station at the front. There isn't a store on site, but there is a market close by just outside the gate. The front desk does sell ice if need. The campsite was a level asphalt pad to back in on surrounded by large shady trees. There was plenty of grass all around with a picnic table and a BBQ at each site. They didn't have fire rings but you are allowed to bring your own, fire wood is not allowed. You are allowed 3 vehicles, 1 camper and 1 tent per site. Dogs are allowed and need to be registered at the front desk and must be on a leash at all times. They aren't allowed on the main beach but you can take them to the beach near the pier and boat launch, just watch out for jellyfish! There are lots of activities, a very family friendly campground. You are given 4 leisure passes per campsite and those are good for activities that are at the campground like mini-golf, the pools, etc. They also have many other options for lodging besides camping including their cabins, cottages, yurts, etc.
