Driving to Ohio - Day 5

We slept with the windows open again last night and woke up to a chill that felt amazing! It was 63 degrees outside (and inside)! Its been months since we have felt 60 degree weather! Kyle hurried off to shower real quick while I started breakfast. We are going to drive to Ohio today and want to get on the road shortly.

Our drive today isn’t too bad, it should take about 4 hours. We are driving through 3 states, New York, Pennsylvania, then Ohio. We have one planned stop at the Roosevelt Inaugural Site to collect a NPS passport stamp. This was our first time breaking camp on our journey and it took us about 3 hours! We are still figuring out our method of where everything goes. Luckily the dump station was right across the street from us so that process didn’t take too long. Check out at the campground is 11:00 am and we made it out right around then. There is a huge “mount-trashmore” in New York right off the highway where they took an old landfill and mounded it with dirt and grass to make a park. We have seen one before in Virginia Beach, but this one was huge and seemed to go on for days! It smelled lovely too…not really.

We made a quick stop at the Roosevelt Inaugural Site for the NPS stamp. Toby decided to go for a little joy run here which freaked us out. Luckily he didn’t go too far and we were able to get him back on his leash.

We made it into Ohio around 4:30 PM. Our plan for when we arrived in Ohio was to check in at the hotel then go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But since it was Sunday, it closed early at 5:30 PM and we ended up not wanting to rush over there. We didn’t have dinner plans until later that evening so we just relaxed at the hotel for a bit which was nice. We stayed at The La Quinta Inn Cleveland - Independence. Much nicer hotel than the one in West Virginia. They even gave us each a gift bag when we arrived with water and a cookie in it!

After relaxing (and updating some blog posts) for a bit we headed over to dinner at the Market Garden Brewery. We each got a flight of beer and shared, tasting what Ohio had to offer. Their beer was pretty good, the Chinook Strike was one of our favorites. We walked around the area for a bit and tried a few other bars before calling it an early night. You don’t realized how exhausting traveling can be until you are in the thick of it!
