Repairs in Rifle - Day 15

- Leaving the trailer at the RV repair shop -

The auto repair shop we dropped the trailer off at last night didn't open until 8:00 AM. We decided that if we didn't hear from them by 9:00 AM we would give them a call. When Kyle finally heard from them, the mechanic told him honestly that he thought we should take the trailer to an RV repair shop because we need a new axle on top of everything else. We looked around and found an RV repair shop nearby. Kyle called USAA because last night they said that they could cover 1 tow and now we need them to tow the trailer from the auto shop to the RV repair shop. He then went down to the RV repair shop to talk to them in person about our situation. Kyle came back with good news and bad news. The good news is that they can fix the trailer. The bad news is that it will take 3-4 weeks for the axle to come in. Since Kyle has to be in Lemoore by Monday for work, we can’t stay here for 3-4 weeks. These last 24 hours we have been working in segments of time, thinking only as far as the next obstacle. Thinking too far ahead brings on more "what ifs" and stress. So thats what we did. Kyle needs to be in Lemoore by Monday, so how do we make that happen? Luckily the RV repair shop took sympathy on us and is letting us store our trailer in their lot until they are able to work on it. So our plan now is to leave the trailer here, skip our stay in Utah and drive to Nevada tonight, drive to Orange Country tomorrow to drop off Toby then drive to Lemoore on Friday. While Kyle drove out to meet the tow truck at the auto repair shop, I called the campground in Utah and cancelled our reservation. Then called the hotel in Nevada and asked if we could move it up one day. They were both very helpful. I also called our families to fill them in on the news and our new plan. Luckily the Findley Inn has a room! Now for our future plan, we are still figuring things out but most likely my dad will come out with me to pick up the trailer in his Suburban.

- Bath time! -

The hotel let us stay in the room until 2:00 PM which is very helpful. The trailer was at the auto repair shop that was an hour away which gave me some spare time while Kyle was gone. So after I made my phone calls I decided to give Toby a quick rinse in the hotel shower. He had turned into a little bit of a brown dog from camping. I used the hotels hair dryer to help dry him off. He was quite confused with that contraption! Kyle called from the auto repair shop to let me know that the tow truck had arrived, and guess who it was? The same guys who towed us there last night! USAA denied those guys last night because they were too expensive, but now they are letting them tow us an hour away? I’ll never understand the insurance world. I can’t complain though, I’m just thankful we don’t have to pay $600 for this tow! Kyle came straight to the hotel to get me while the tow truck went to the RV repair shop. Toby and I were waiting outside for him when Kyle pulled up. After the tow truck dropped the trailer off at the RV repair shop, Kyle and I opened it up and started emptying out what we would need for the next month. I had to throw out most of what was in the fridge since it had gone bad. We had to reorganize the truck and the trailer to fit everything in the truck that we needed to bring with us. It took a while to reorganize everything and it was so hot outside. Sharron, the woman who Kyle has been working with at the RV repair shop, came out with ice cold water which was so nice. We were on the road again by 4:00 PM. We have an 8 hour drive to Nevada tonight, through 4 states; Colorado, Utah, Arizona, then Nevada.

- Even Toby is happy to be on the road again -

- This is such a genius idea -

The drive was just as treacherous as the beginning of the mountains. But this time it was a little easier without towing anything. We switched off driving, but Kyle ended up having to drive the last half because I don’t like driving in the dark and was getting really nervous on those hills and curves. We were able to enjoy the scenery more this time though. When you aren’t so worried about the trailer behind you, its a really pretty drive.

We made it into Nevada around 1:30 AM. The guy at the La Quinta desk was very nice and also was retired Navy. He waived our pet fee for Toby which was so nice. It has been quite the journey the last few days, but as I learned growing up camping…It’s all part of the adventure!
