Solar Eclipse (Driving to Indiana) - Day 6

The hotel had an actual breakfast complete with waffle maker and real coffee. I went and ate while Kyle slept then brought him back some food. Check out wasn’t until noon at the hotel and our drive today isn’t too bad. I spent the rest of the morning working on updating blog posts and photo streams. After filling up the ice chest from the hotel ice machine we were on the road again by 12:15. Our route today will take us through only 2 states, Ohio then into Indiana. It should be about a 5 hour drive with one stop at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is fairly close to the hotel. We drove through the winding roads for a bit, enjoying the scenery. We made a quick stop at the Visitors Center to learn about what time the Solar Eclipse will be for us. They said the eclipse will begin at 1:06 PM and end at 3:51 PM with its peak around 2:30 PM. We didn’t have any special eclipse glasses (I kept putting off ordering them before we left and then before we knew it we were on the road) but we made a make shift viewer with 2 pieces of paper. I remember doing this when I was younger with my mom. She took a piece of paper and made a pinhole in it then held it over another piece of paper. This way you could see the eclipse shadow. We were at a truck stop in Ohio when we could see the eclipse starting on our make shift viewer.

Kyle actually let me drive for a bit today! It was fairly easy, the highway we were on (I-90) was long and flat. We also have a camera set up on the bumper of the trailer so we can see behind us while driving. It also helps with backing into spots. We are headed to a campground in Indiana Dunes State Park.

- Laura getting to drive for the first time -
The drive today was fairly easy, it started raining a bit near the end which is always a drag. But we made it into the campground before dark and were able to fill up the trailer with water right away. The out of state plate fee for Indiana Dunes State Park is steep, at $12 for a car. The rain stopped by the time we were getting ready to set up camp which was perfect.

Our eating schedule is always wacky when traveling so for dinner I made a large bowl of guacamole! We ate in the car not too long ago but still wanted something without having to set up the griddle. Guac in bed with the Tobes is the perfect way to end a day of driving!

- The best dinner ever -
